João Couto joins Varzim

Varzim SC have secured the signing of João Couto for the next two seasons, with the 24-year-old winger committing to the club until the end of the 2027/28 campaign. He arrives from AD Sanjoanense, where he spent the last two seasons, making 54 appearances and scoring eight goals.
Upon his arrival in Póvoa de Varzim, João Couto highlighted Varzim SC’s rich history and unique atmosphere, recalling the experience of playing at the club’s stadium and emphasizing the importance of the supporters. He also expressed his hope of enjoying a successful and rewarding new chapter in his career.
“I hope this is the right decision for my career and that I can be very happy here,” he said. “I’m a player who likes to give everything on the pitch. I have pace, I enjoy taking on opponents one-on-one, and I also have an eye for goal. The fans can expect a player who will give his all and who will try to embody the image of Varzim SC on the pitch. As I said, I hope to be happy this season and help the team achieve our objectives,” he added.
Having come through the youth systems of Feirense and FC Porto, João Couto has also represented Lusitânia de Lourosa and Oliveira do Douro during his career.
