Daniel Candeias Ends Two-Decade Career

Daniel Candeias has decided to end his professional career at the age of 38, concluding a journey of more than two decades linked to football.

Born in Fornos de Algodres on February 25, 1988, the winger took his first steps in football before joining FC Porto's youth academy in 2002, the club where he also began his senior career.

Throughout his career, Candeias played for some of the main Portuguese clubs and built a trajectory marked by experience and the ability to play on both wings.

After FC Porto, where he won the national championship, he played for Varzim, Rio Ave, Recreativo de Huelva, Paços de Ferreira, Portimonense, and Nacional, where he had one of the most remarkable periods of his career.

This was followed by a spell at Benfica and experiences in German, Spanish, and French football, playing for Nürnberg, Granada, and Metz.

The international adventure gained even greater expression in Scotland and Turkey. Candeias wore the Rangers shirt, where he stood out for his assists and consistency, before representing Gençlerbirliği, Alanyaspor, and Kocaelispor.

In the final stretch of his career, he returned to Portugal to represent UD Oliveirense, then played for Adanaspor and finished his career at Académica, helping the Coimbra team secure their return to Liga 2 in 2026.

An international for Portugal's youth teams, Candeias earned 54 caps and scored 15 goals across various youth levels.
