Promosport presented João Amorim with a symbolic award for his decades-long career.
The former player retired from the pitch last summer at the age of 32, after completing four seasons playing for Leixões. Despite ending his playing career, he remained connected to the Matosinhos club as assistant coach of the first team, a position he left in early November.
Besides Leixões, Amorim played for Freamunde, Cova da Piedade, Varzim, Arouca, CD Aves, Belenenses, Ac. Viseu and V. Guimarães, totaling around 300 games in his career.
When he said goodbye, he left a message on social media that summarized his entire career: "It was a tough road, with many serious injuries that hampered my career. I fought tooth and nail for my dreams. However, due to these injuries, I couldn't reach the level I perhaps was capable of reaching. Nevertheless, I am proud of my journey and I know I did everything to be better every day. So, for the sake of my knees and because I have a long life ahead of me, I decided to make this decision and follow another path. To all the clubs I played for, thank you very much for everything."
