Sérgio Fonseca takes charge of AVS

Sérgio Fonseca has been appointed as the new head coach of AVS Futebol SAD, signing a contract that runs until June 2027. The 53-year-old manager has already begun preparations for the upcoming season, joining the club after a successful campaign with Académico de Viseu, where he guided the team to promotion to Portugal’s top flight.
With extensive experience across both youth and professional football, Fonseca made a strong impression at Académico after taking over the first team during a challenging period last season. Under his leadership, the Viseu side climbed from the middle of the table into the promotion race, ultimately securing a place in the Primeira Liga.
During his presentation, the coach expressed enthusiasm for the new challenge and his ambition to compete for promotion once again.
“I see AVS as an opportunity to continue building consistency in my coaching career. It is a club that gives me the chance to pursue something I would like to achieve again, which is promotion,” he told the club’s media channels.
