Fernando Varela is back in Portugal

Fernando Varela signed for Casa Pia until 2024. The 34-year-old center back left PAOK and is back in Portugal, to reinforce the Lisbon club, ten years after he left this country.
International for Cape Verde, Fernando Varela is a strong addition to Casa Pia, which will play in the I Liga for the first time in more than eight decades.
With him, he brings extensive international experience, not only at PAOK, where he has been for the last six seasons, helping the club to win a League and four Greek Cups, but also in spells at the historic Steaua de Bucharest, Romania, where he was also crowned champion twice and won as many League Cups, and also in the same country, Vaslui, which, in 2012, was the gateway after several years playing in Portugal.
Casa Pia is the fourth Portuguese club in the career of Fernando Varela, who debuted at Estoril and also played for UD Rio Maior, on loan from the "Canarinhos", Trofense and Feirense.
Last season, Fernando Varela played 22 games at PAOK.
